About Eric Luciano

Current role
Hey there! I’m currently the Principal UI Designer at PayMongo (YC ‘19), where I spend my days shaping how people interact with financial tools—making them feel less like “fintech” and more like something actually enjoyable to use.
What I’ve Been Working On
PayMongo Checkout
I help with the redesign of our payment interface, aiming to make the checkout flow as smooth and intuitive as possible—for both merchants and their customers. Think: faster, clearer, and just a little more delightful. Also I help & led for other features like Promos, QRPh, Click to pay for Master card.
Merchant Dashboard
This one’s close to my heart. I’ve helped craft features that let merchants manage their businesses confidently, with an interface that feels more like a helpful teammate than a tool.
PayMongo Pages
I worked on giving merchants the freedom to create custom payment pages with options like custom fields, preferred payment methods, and able to add a product
Beyond the UI
Design System Champion
I kicked off and built out our design system to bring harmony across our products. It’s now the foundation for how we keep things consistent, scalable, and (importantly) easier for everyone on the team.
Mentorship & Team Culture
I love mentoring other designers—sharing ideas, giving feedback, and learning from each other. Building a strong, thoughtful design culture is just as important to me as shipping great work.
At the end of the day, I’m all about making things that are simple, intuitive, and a little bit joyful to use. Whether it’s refining a user flow or zooming out to think through a product’s structure, I care deeply about the details—and the people on the other side of the screen.
Professional Background
Before joining PayMongo, I was a Senior UI/UX Designer at Multisys Technologies Corporation, a software company focused on building smart, sustainable solutions for all kinds of industries.
It was a fast-paced, collaborative environment where I had the chance to wear a lot of hats:
I worked closely with developers to bring both internal tools and client-facing projects to life—everything from wireframes to working prototypes.
I mentored other designers, helping guide them through the design process and grow their skills.
I even got hands-on with code, translating designs into HTML and CSS to make sure the final product stayed true to the vision.
That experience gave me a solid foundation in balancing usability, feasibility, and business needs—skills I still lean on every day.
What My Teammates Say
One of the best parts of working at PayMongo is the people I get to collaborate with every day. I’ve been lucky to receive some kind words from my teammates—here’s a snapshot of what they’ve shared:
“Eric’s super proactive and always delivers top-notch work, often ahead of schedule. He brings real value to both the Product and Engineering teams with his efficiency and strong work ethic.”
“He takes real ownership of our Design System—constantly coming up with new ideas and executing them with skill. His energy around it is honestly contagious.”
“Eric is approachable, supportive, and generous with his feedback. His documentation is always clear and forward-thinking, and he’s super quick to adapt in our fast-paced, agile setup.”
I really appreciate this kind of feedback—it keeps me grounded and motivated to keep growing, sharing, and pushing our craft forward as a team.
Design Philosophy & What Drives Me
I’m genuinely passionate about design systems—not just as a way to keep things tidy, but as a powerful tool for creating better, more consistent experiences at scale.
For me, it’s not just about building components; it’s about building shared understanding. That means:
Hosting open discussions to make sure every new component fits real team needs—not just theoretical ones.
Writing clear, thoughtful documentation so that designers and developers can use the system confidently and efficiently.
Running hands-on workshops to help teammates feel more comfortable and excited about using what we’ve built.
Always checking what already exists before adding something new—because good systems are about clarity, not clutter.
I’m also super drawn to dashboard design, where small details—like a satisfying micro-interaction or a subtle animation—can make a big difference. I love jumping into the code when needed to help bring those touches to life, closing the gap between design and implementation.
In short: I care a lot about the “how” as much as the “what.” Great design isn’t just about pixels—it’s about communication, collaboration, and making sure the experience works beautifully for the people using it.
