I'm a user interface and design system designer - Eric Luciano

Hey, I’m Eric 👋,

I’m a UI designer based in the Philippines with a soft spot for clean interfaces, thoughtful interactions, and design systems that actually make life easier. I’ve been designing for the web for a little over a decade now—working with everyone from early-stage startups to growing product teams.

Right now, I’m the Principal UI Designer at PayMongo (YC 19), where I lead design on our Payment Checkout, Merchant Dashboard and PayMongo Pages. I also mentor our UI design team and previously led the charge on our design system—building the foundations that keep our products consistent, flexible, and scalable.

I’m especially passionate about that sweet spot where design and code meet. I love jumping into the details—whether it’s fine-tuning a UI component, sketching out a flow, or prototyping with code to bring interactions to life.

At the end of the day, my goal is simple: to create digital experiences that are beautiful, functional, and feel just right. I believe that design should be a seamless part of the product experience, not an afterthought. I’m all about creating interfaces that are not just visually appealing, but also intuitive and user-friendly.

Writing

I write about the things I’m passionate about—UI design, design systems, front-end workflows, and growing in this crazy, creative career path. Expect practical tips, lessons I’ve learned (sometimes the hard way), and honest thoughts from my journey so far.

Whether you’re just starting out or deep in the craft, I hope you’ll find something useful—or at least relatable

Reflecting on 2022: A bullet journal summary

As the end of the year approaches, I always look forward to the chance to reflect on the past 12 months. One of my favorite ways to do this is through writing, and this year I'm going to try to incorporate my love of bullet journaling into my reflection process. Before I dive into reflecting on the year as a whole, I want to take a moment to look back on my progress with bullet journaling. It's been a hobby that I've really enjoyed and I'm excited to see how far I've come in my skills and techniques.

Why is writing beneficial to UI Designer?

You probably don't like writing if you're anything like me. It takes a lot of time and frequently seems like overkill. Nevertheless, I try to set my worries aside since I believe writing is a skill every designer should possess.

An ending is a new beginning: My self-reflection after quitting.

It's been a year since I decided to quit my three-year job. My previous job, I must say, was undoubtedly a unique work-and-passion-driven environment wherein every day there is a possibility of learning something new.
